Kalia Konstantinidou, Group Executive Officer of Empiria Group, contributed to a meaningful dialogue on the future of coastal destinations and the role of the private sector in creating positive impact during the panel discussion “Regenerative Tourism and Coastal Economies”.

The session was part of the Families & Foundations Impact Gathering at the 3rd Hellenic Impact Investing Conference “Scaling Impact” & Impact Weekend, organized by the Hellenic Impact Investing Network at the Zappeion Megaron. It brought together tourism and impact leaders to explore how regenerative practices, and responsible investment can strengthen local economies while preserving the natural and cultural wealth of Greece’s coastal regions.

From sustainability to regeneration

While sustainability has long been a guiding principle for the industry, Kalia underlined the need to go one step further, from sustaining to regenerating the places we touch.

“Regeneration happens when hospitality gives more than it takes, when the space for joy we create for guests also nourishes the people and the place.”

This shift from preservation to restoration is not only environmental, it is social and cultural. It calls for long-term investment in people, ecosystems, and local identity, ensuring that growth becomes a force for balance rather than depletion.

A shared purpose

As she noted, regeneration begins with respect for place, its land, its people, and its rhythm. Through Empiria Group’s ongoing collaborations, this philosophy is expressed in tangible ways: long-standing partnerships with the Cyclades Preservation Fund, the Museum of Cycladic Art, and Cyclades Wildlife Care; support for the Biennale of Contemporary Ceramics (BCK) through the Clay in Commons initiative; and the Islanders’ Forum hosted in Paros, which promotes dialogue and cooperation across island communities.

Each initiative serves as a reminder that tourism can be a catalyst for education, creativity, and environmental stewardship, and that regeneration begins not with scale but with intention.

Collaboration as a driver of change

The conversation, moderated by Lina Liakou, highlighted that regeneration is not achieved in isolation. It depends on the ability of the public and private sectors, investors, and communities to co-create solutions that serve both people and planet.

Kalia exchanged ideas with Emmanuell Vordonis, Maria Gatsou, Dr Lida Tsene, and Angelos Manglis, reflecting a shared commitment to a new vision of tourism that values cohesion, creativity, and accountability over volume or speed.

A purpose-led approach

Empiria Group’s approach to regeneration is rooted in purpose, in the belief that hospitality should create conditions for wellbeing and connection, not only for visitors but also for the communities and ecosystems that host them. It is an understanding that every space, every decision, and every collaboration contributes to something larger: the regeneration of place and the renewal of meaning in modern tourism.
