The opening of Istoria Cliff in May 2026 marks a significant new chapter for Istoria, a member of Design Hotels. Perched above Santorini's iconic caldera in the village of Firostefani, the new nine-suite retreat expands the brand's presence across two distinct locations on the island.

Since its opening on the black sands of Perivolos Beach in 2018, Istoria has offered a deeply personal interpretation of Santorini, rooted in contemporary Cycladic design, and a strong sense of place. With the addition of Istoria Cliff, the story now unfolds across two dinstict settings, inviting guests to experience the island through different perspectives while remaining connected by the same philosophy and spirit.

Perched above the caldera, Istoria Cliff looks out across the volcano, the Aegean Sea, and Santorini's ever-changing light.

Meaning “story” in Greek, Istoria is inspired by the remarkable life of Christina Tassou, whose lifelong connection with Santorini shaped the foundations of the property. Today, that legacy continues through a dual-location concept that reflects the island’s contrasts: sea and sky, grounding and elevation, black sand and caldera.

Located in the traditional village of Firostefani, Istoria Cliff features nine elegant cave-style suites overlooking the volcano and the Aegean Sea. Designed to blend seamlessly with Santorini’s architectural heritage, the property combines handcrafted interiors, natural materials, and panoramic views with the quiet intimacy that defines the Istoria experience.

Together, Istoria Beach and Istoria Cliff offer guests the opportunity to shape their own Santorini "story".
